Nurse in her 20s 'kills herself' at London hospital - where 8 Covid-19 patients have died

AN INTENSIVE CARE NURSE at a London hospital - where swathes of coronavirus patients are being treated - has killed herself at work.

The woman, understood to be in her 20s, was working on a ward where eight patients being treated for Covid-19 have died.

She was found unresponsive at the hospital before police were called just after 5.30pm on Monday.

Medics battled to save her life, but she later died.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 17:36hrs on Monday, 23 March to a south London hospital after a woman was found unresponsive. Officers attended.

"The woman, aged in her 20s, was treated and later died in hospital. Next of kin have been informed.

"The death is not being treated a suspicious. A file will be prepared for the coroner."

A spokesperson from King's College Hospital added: "A member of staff was found unresponsive at the hospital on Monday.

"Despite the best efforts of the medical team, they sadly died. We are offering support to their family at this difficult time."

Intensive care wards throughout the country are dealing with numerous patients on life support and in critical conditions.

London has seen more Covid-19 cases than any other area of the British Isles, with 2,872 confirmed cases so far.

There have been a total of 143 deaths in the city.

The incident follows on from the news that an Italian nurse had taken her own life after testing positive for coronavirus this week.

34-year-old Daniela Trezzi had been suffering "heavy stress" while working in the hard-hit region of Lombardy.

She reportedly feared that she had been unknowingly spreading the disease to others throughout the hospital once she tested positive, according to the Daily Mail.

Like the aforementioned London-based nurse, she too had been working in the intensive care unit of the hospital.
